Zeal for Good?

Sometimes it Seems People are Passionate about a Cause . . .

. . . but for all the wrong reasons or, even for a cause that promotes evil instead of good.

Definition of radicalism*

  1. 1:  the quality or state of being radical

  2. 2:  the doctrines or principles of radicals

I could list such causes from history or even from contemporary sources in abundance: tyranny, crime, cults or sinister movements but, I need only give one monstrous example: radical religion (pseudo religion).

Contemporary global news is often dominated by this.

Terror, bombings, attacks and unspeakable horrors appall civilized people everywhere.  The cause itself or its wily leaders seem to have little trouble recruiting people for their agenda. What does this say about people?  I often think if only those causes for good could be as effective the causes for evil.  I hope it is only an illusion because bad things seem to command more interest than good things.  One day Jesus shall return and that day will be the beginning of the end for evil.

If more Christians had great zeal the World would be a different place.

I do believe there are Christians zealous for accomplishing “The Great Commission” so why do they often seem less successful that those with evil agendas? I have come to understand some things, having lived almost seventy years: People want to belong to something; people want to accomplish something; people want to be part of great change.  The impulse for such things is normal and part of life and the following excerpts from GOD’s WORD the Holy Bible may help you understand and lead you to better things: what is good and what is pleasing to GOD. These are truly great and worthy of devotion and I hope my life will help lead others to this great thing: Eternal life with GOD because they accept Jesus Christ for their Lord and Savior.

Bible Excerpts:

Romans 10:2 ESV

For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.

Philippians 1:27 ESV

Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel,

Mark 16:15 ESV

And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.

Matthew 28:19-20 ESV

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

What is holding this flawed world together?

Since no one can claim to be perfectly sinless and sin is counter productive and even worse, just a small percentage of any population inspired by pure evil can do a great deal of harm, how does the civilized world even exist?

Furthermore, from my experience in living a long life rich in diverse experiences I suspect even the best people, families or nations are dysfunctional to some degree, again, how do many people live in relative peace and safety, have adequate shelter and at least sufficient food to survive? GOD.

A fellow Christian once said to me The Holy Spirit sustains whatever level of civilized life we currently enjoy.

Humans like to say things are relative: this person is relatively good, that event seems relatively bad or despite flaws our United States of America is the best place to live in the entire world relative to a number of selected less fortunate nations.  Yes I live in The U.S.A. and experienced a few other countries and I tend to agree that we have it good; more important though is our Nation’s influence upon the rest of the world. Advances in human rights, healthcare and freedoms are just some of these influences – this despite imperfection in some places of our land. So how did and continues to be the case? GOD.

. . . sustains a Nation that once conducted itself more in accordance with GOD’s standards than it does today.  GOD is patient. GOD is forgiving. GOD is just.  GOD will not tolerate a decline in the number of believers, back-slidden  believers or the increase of deliberate sinning forever: note the Biblical history of the Hebrews in The Old Testament.

It may not be the end times that destroys us.

The cycles of obedience and disobedience and the ultimate handing over of Israel and Judah to conquerors indicated GOD will not be mocked and there are consequences for sin for Nations as well as for individuals.

It is not too late for our Nation and our people to repent undo the disobedience and give GOD a reason to continue to bless The U.S.A. instructing The Holy Spirit to hold us together still.

Romans 8:26 ESV

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

2 Corinthians 3:17 ESV

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

John 14:15-17 ESV

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.

The Value of Human Life

From healthcare to war casualties

The people of The United States of America have demonstrated a high standard when it comes to the value our Nation places on human life.  No, we are not perfect; we have some flaws and some people who abuse others. Yet when considering the World as a whole the U.S.A. has been, and is, a leader in helping others and acting as a force for improvement.

America Changed the World

So How Did America Change the World?

The America I refer to is the United States of America. That the U.S.A. changed the world is not debatable but, I am not writing about the form of government, the culture or contributions to World Science and Technology. So what am I writing about? Economics? No. Geology? No. Not even its influence projected as the only ‘Super Power’ after 19911. America changed the world order by demonstrating more positive attributes of Christianity – even though not with perfection – than any other Nation, country, religion variant or society has in all of world history. In this reality of consciousness, people do not reach perfection because of the very nature of homo Sapiens.

1-20-Public-Domain moonWe do not find perfection on Earth

Greece, Persia, Rome, France, Germany, England, Portugal and Spain (as well as some others not listed) contributed to civilization’s march away from primitive barbarism toward fairness and justice. This process has taken so long because the evil demonstrated by humans is hard to diminish and slow to dissipate. Though advances toward the good can be identified and studied, evil persists to this day in places on the Earth and, it still evokes fear and loathing.

(C) James Halifko

Evil still lurks upon the Earth

Nevertheless when The Axis2 was finally defeated in 1945 a profound New World Order was established by The United States of America. Since then, there has been war and genocide, crime and injustice, yet, these manifestations of evil have declined and continue to decline. So therefore, the possibilities for the future from a humanist view can be anticipated to be bright and positive. I do have a caveat, though the future is not the subject of this treatise the ultimate demise of the World is prophesied by several religious traditions including the Jewish and Christian versions as revealed in scripture. I do not know when the World will end; as a Bible3 believing Christian I see the work at hand for me and my brothers and sisters is to demonstrate God’s love and to be obedient to what Jesus Christ has instructed especially ‘love thy neighbor as thy self’4.

The U.S.A. has fostered treaties, turned enemies into friends and assisted many people who were in great need. This behavior has taught an imperfect World that people doing what is right and just can change things for the better.

The USA threw a lifeline to Europe

250px-US-MarshallPlanAid-Logo.svgWhen World War II ended The United State of America had treated the vanquished differently than how most victors of war had done – at least never on such a vast scale. What the American people did was marvelous: They forgave their enemies, did not levy monetary penalties that could not have been paid but instead, helped the former enemies rebuild5 their nations, guided them through recovery so they could rejoin the World Community as contributing members: Japan, Germany and Italy. In fact, The United States assisted victim Nations rebuild in Europe and Asia as well.

The World calls out “Mayday” and Americans respond

And so the U.S.A changed the World for the better despite imperfections, set backs, envious people, revenge seekers and extremist driven by violent ideologies. I sincerely believe that we as a Nation can continue to demonstrate ‘Good’ to the world and help bestow the blessings of God upon it. I am confident God wants to freely give good things to humans who acknowledge God in all things, and with paramount importance, accept the gift of Eternal Salvation available because of the completed work of Jesus Christ just by believing in Him as Lord and Savior.
