Believing GOD can be Lonely

Believing GOD can be Lonely

Notice I did not say “believing IN, God”. Many people say they believe in God or even evoke GOD’s name in emotional moments: but do they believe what GOD tells us? That we are all sinners and fall short? That we cannot work our way into Heaven? That Jesus is the only way, the truth and the light?

Pure Bible

1 Kings 18:22 ESV

Then Elijah said to the people, “I, even I only, am left a prophet of the Lord, but Baal’s prophets are 450 men.

This is why fellowship is so important:

In 2 Kings 6 when Syria was coming to war against Israel a young man in great fear express this to the Prophet Elisha:

2 Kings 6:15-17  ESV

15 When the servant of the man of God rose early in the morning and went out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was all around the city. And the servant said, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?” 16 He said, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 17 Then Elisha prayed and said, “O Lord, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

Hebrews 13:5 ESV

Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Commit to one another to follow the path of righteousness; be accountable for what you know from The Word of GOD.

Galatians 6:1-5 ESV

Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. For each will have to bear his own load.

The Universe

Enormous Cosmos – image from pixabay.com

Is GOD as big as the Universe?

Einstein – image from pixabay.com

GOD must be larger then everything or we completely misunderstand everything because that may not be relevant, why? We think in terms of the physical world we can touch, taste smell or hear but, we have a hard time with the extremely large and the extremely small. The visible Universe is so vast I scarcely believe any human can truly grasp it. The extremely small down to the quantum level is equally difficult to grasp by any human I know. Yet, GOD is the creator and has sovereign  control of the dominion we call the Universe.

Romans 1:20 ESV

For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPI7WbPyoM8been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

How can GOD fit inside or surround everything?

Jeremiah 23:23-24 ESV

“Am I a God at hand, declares the Lord, and not a God far away? Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the Lord. Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares the Lord.

Luke 12:7 ESV

Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.

Can we know? As a Christian I trust what the Bible explains about our GOD and have the Faith to accept it. Without this belief and trust, a human _cannot  truly understand or worse, scoff at believers. With an attitude such as that they cannot accept what the Scriptures teach. First they must confess, repent accept Jesus and receive The Holy Spirit so they can enjoy salvation and understand what we Christians believe to be true as presented in The Holy Bible.

Sudden Judgement

Sudden Judgement

The football game was tied and the home team had the ball; oh no they fumbled and the other team ran the ball all the way for a touchdown. We know that as a “sudden death” tie breaker. The judgement? The home team lost and the visiting team won. A more dire situation? Oh I will accept GOD (Jesus) when I get old; I am not ready (to give up sinning ) now. Bzzzzzzzzz!

“CRASH!”

TOO LATE; the head on collision killed them instantly. Now before GOD and the judgement.

2 Corinthians 5:10 ESV

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.

Accept Jesus now. Waiting too long may cost you everything but giving up a little now for an eternity with GOD?

Invaluable. Compares to nothing earthly.

What are the Good Old Days?

The Good Old Days?

Black Death pxabay.com

What good old days are is immensely subjective of course; for whom; where; when.  Times of war, famine, natural disaster, pandemics or when little existed to defend, ward off or assist victims of whatever.

Ecclesiastes 7:10

10 Say not, “Why were the former days better than these?” For it is not from wisdom that you ask this.

Ancient common practices:

Blood letting was a common medical practice once; even using leaches; no antibiotics; no anesthesia; no X-rays; few effective medications.

Blood Sucking Leach pixabay.com
Times of economic distress:

Genesis 26:1 ESV /

Bread and Soup Line

Now there was a famine in the land, besides the former famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went to Gerar to Abimelech king of the Philistines.

Ecclesiastes 3:8 ESV /

A time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.

Yet, the times of peace are fleeting and somewhere on this planet an active war is happening at any given time so, the times mentioned above not only change but the “where-s” and by the “whom-s” also.

Despite of all the threats and dangers throughout history, Christians can look to a future with GOD in a “better place”.  Thank You Jesus.

Discernment

The Declaration of Independence – images from pixabay.com

Why is acquiring Discernment so important?

1 John 4:1 ESV

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Out in the “The Real World” I heard it said as a child or student it is like (blank). Unfortunately while this may suggest making a mechanical thing work it can, also point to a darker side of life. We (all not just Christians) must prepare our children for real life dangers along with an optimistic portrayal of life beyond the cocoon of family, church or school – when these places live up to the best humans can offer of course.  Some children learn all too soon some of life’s uglier side at home or close to home. For the majority I hope the collective nest in childhood is loving and nurturing. As a student of history, humans and what the Bible says about good and evil, we do not do our young a favor by shielding them for too long and too tight a loving grip: in some way we must alert them just what is “The Real World” as we teach them tolerance and how to love thy neighbor as thy self.

1 Kings 3:9 ESV

Give your servant (the writer) therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?”

A good place to start is revealed in these two verses . . . and many more in GOD’s Word.

Romans 12:2 ESV /

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

James 1:5 ESV /

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

Christianity is Active not Passive

Christianity is Active not Passive

It would be nice just to sit back and enjoy what GOD has given us in the life we have in these United States (despite flaws); we are pretty much safe and secure for the most part. So why not get rid of our Armed Forces? Our Firstresponders? SURE, if we did we would soon be overwhelmed by enemies, competitors and evil doers.

“It doesn’t take a hero to order men into battle. It takes a hero to be one of those men who goes into battle.” — Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf Jr.May 25, 2015

This is a comment from a warrior that dedicated his life to keeping Americans free.

Christian you must not nap as the culture around you drifts evermore into sin. We may be acting too late for some things but, with the help of GOD we can see the undoing of some of the evils that have permeated our land.

This week’s blog is heavier on Biblical quotes: GOD’s Word is Clear and needs nothing from me to make it clearer on this topic.

Ephesians 5:11 ESV

Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.

James 4:17 ESV

So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.

2 Timothy 4:2-4 ESV

Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.

Hebrews 13:4 ESV

Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.

Genesis 1:27 ESV

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

Jeremiah 1:5 ESV

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

Prayer

At the Cross – image pixabay.com

Let us Pray

Our local church is a praying church: we meet to pray, alert one another to new prayer requests and keep an extensive prayer list updated weekly. Prayer is a vital part of who we are.

Jesus prayed and taught others to pray:

Matthew 6:9-13 ESV

Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

From QUORA.com

“The word “prayer” is mentioned 132 times in the Bible (KJV) in the following verses: 2 Samuel 7:27. 1 Kings 8:28 (twice)Nov 30, 2018”

Hope and Joy

SONG: SEASON OF HOPE (With Lyrics) : Don Moen

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKT1VUj5Qrs

Romans 15:13 ESV

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

Traditions – images from pixabay.com

We have Hope in our future because Jesus Christ came to offer a way to share eternity with GOD. We have Joy because of that and how we can share this greatest gift of all. Christians mimic this at this time of year by exchanging gifts or giving them and not expecting them in return. We take part in all kinds of programs designed to benefit the less privileged in our communities and even the whole world. The giver receives as much, if not more, joy that the receiver.

2 Corinthians 9:7 ESV

Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Do Not Omit the True Source of this Joy

The Value of Humans

Staff – images from pixabay.com

More Mouths to Feed?

Crowd of People – images from pixabay.com

How many times have humans thought enough food could not be produced for a growing population only to be fooled by GOD. GOD gave humans brains and intelligence and GOD blessed us also with the ability to keep up with change. Find ways to harvest more food is just another example of GOD given intelligence used correctly.  When food fails to reach the hungry it is not because there is not enough of it: it is because of selfish and greedy people living according to their sin.

Luke 12:24 ESV

Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds!

Black Birds – images from pixabay.com

Consider what are the real reasons some people seek ways to control populations? This goal is is not in GOD’s plan.

Leviticus 19:14 ESV

You shall not curse the deaf or put a stumbling block before the blind, but you shall fear your God: I am the Lord.

Tyrants and ruthless leaders sometimes seek to rid their populations of any person that cannot contribute to their agenda. History has deplorable examples of this. Add genocide, infanticide and males of military age to the hideous annihilation.

Too Old?

Proverbs 16:31 ESV

Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained in a righteous life.

Some cultures place great value on the elders. The older members of society have much wisdom and experience to share with the young. These elders are held in high regard and are often valued with great affection.

In 1st Kings 12 King Rehoboam (son of Solomon)  rejected the council of wise elders and instead listened to his young friends the result? The kingdom split.

Old and New Ways – images from pixabay.com

Three Ways to Approach the Bible

Translations of the Holy Bible abound in many languages but there is only three approaches to translating into your language (with some blending of these in some versions): a) Word for Word, b) Thought-for-thought and c) Paraphrase.

Hebrew – images from pixabay.com

Scroll – images from pixabay.com

If you were alive when the Bible was written in Hebrew and Aramaic and translated with precision into Greek and you knew these languages all the modern versions would not be necessary. It is because of this we often refer to several versions in English or another language to grasp meaning as accurately as possible.

The Holy Spirit Helps

John 14:26 ESV

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.

When you became (or become) a Christian you receive(d) The Holy Spirit to help you understand and acquire better skills as to what is right and what is wrong.

Mysteries Unfold

Christianity shares one aspect with other religions because as humans we have a number of hindrances that limit our understanding of somethings. These are not mystical or crime mysteries however: The Trinity, How GOD hears all our prayers . . . and so on.

Colossians 2:1-3 ESV

For I want you to know how great a struggle I have for you and for those at Laodicea and for all who have not seen me face to face, that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Bottom Line

Electronic Book – images from pixabay.com

We begin as an infant in The Lord and learn to crawl, walk and then run with knowledge and understanding; we become more Christ Like if we are obedient and diligently study The Word.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.
