Some creatures make the journey swiftly; others do not.

We all are transitioning from infant to adult
transition [tran-zish–uh n, –sish-]
movement, passage, or change from one position, state, stage, subject, concept, etc., to another; change:
Humans experience a long childhood, adolescence and then as an adult several phases culminating in senior citizenship. The journey provides knowledge and experience acquired over a lifetime. What we paid attention to as children is altered with time and maturity.
1 Corinthians 13:11 ESV
When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways.

As we mature we are expected to contribute to society and teach the younger members what we come to know.
We drink spiritual milk as new believers but should mature to digest more complex teachings to the point that we ourselves begin to teach others.
Hebrews 5:11-14 ESV
About this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food, for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.
We may be transformed in many different ways

transformation [trans-fer-mey-shuh n]
3. change in form, appearance, nature, or character. http://www.dictionary.com/browse/transformation
We should become more Christ-like every day falling less into temptation and resisting sin with greater success.
Ephesians 4:22-24 ESV
To put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

The Transfiguration of Jesus may also hint at what we may experience when we get to heaven
transfiguration [trans-fig-yuh–rey-shuh n, trans-fig-]

One day we Christians will have a Glorified Body.
Philippians 3:21 ESV
Who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.
TO KNOW ABOUT GOD AND GOD’S WAYS THE BIBLE SHOULD BE STUDIED AS A SINGLE UNIT; UNITED IN CONCEPT AND CONSISTENT WHEN CONTEXT IS UNDERSTOOD.
