Believing GOD can be Lonely

Believing GOD can be Lonely

Notice I did not say “believing IN, God”. Many people say they believe in God or even evoke GOD’s name in emotional moments: but do they believe what GOD tells us? That we are all sinners and fall short? That we cannot work our way into Heaven? That Jesus is the only way, the truth and the light?

Pure Bible

1 Kings 18:22 ESV

Then Elijah said to the people, “I, even I only, am left a prophet of the Lord, but Baal’s prophets are 450 men.

This is why fellowship is so important:

In 2 Kings 6 when Syria was coming to war against Israel a young man in great fear express this to the Prophet Elisha:

2 Kings 6:15-17  ESV

15 When the servant of the man of God rose early in the morning and went out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was all around the city. And the servant said, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?” 16 He said, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 17 Then Elisha prayed and said, “O Lord, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

Hebrews 13:5 ESV

Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Galatians 6:1-5 ESV

Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. For each will have to bear his own load.

The Universe

Enormous Cosmos – image from pixabay.com

Is GOD as big as the Universe?

Einstein – image from pixabay.com

GOD must be larger then everything or we completely misunderstand everything because that may not be relevant, why? We think in terms of the physical world we can touch, taste smell or hear but, we have a hard time with the extremely large and the extremely small. The visible Universe is so vast I scarcely believe any human can truly grasp it. The extremely small down to the quantum level is equally difficult to grasp by any human I know. Yet, GOD is the creator and has sovereign  control of the dominion we call the Universe.

Romans 1:20 ESV

For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPI7WbPyoM8been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

How can GOD fit inside or surround everything?

Jeremiah 23:23-24 ESV

“Am I a God at hand, declares the Lord, and not a God far away? Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the Lord. Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares the Lord.

Luke 12:7 ESV

Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.

Can we know? As a Christian I trust what the Bible explains about our GOD and have the Faith to accept it. Without this belief and trust, a human _cannot  truly understand or worse, scoff at believers. With an attitude such as that they cannot accept what the Scriptures teach. First they must confess, repent accept Jesus and receive The Holy Spirit so they can enjoy salvation and understand what we Christians believe to be true as presented in The Holy Bible.

Sudden Judgement

Sudden Judgement

The football game was tied and the home team had the ball; oh no they fumbled and the other team ran the ball all the way for a touchdown. We know that as a “sudden death” tie breaker. The judgement? The home team lost and the visiting team won. A more dire situation? Oh I will accept GOD (Jesus) when I get old; I am not ready (to give up sinning ) now. Bzzzzzzzzz!

“CRASH!”

TOO LATE; the head on collision killed them instantly. Now before GOD and the judgement.

2 Corinthians 5:10 ESV

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.

Accept Jesus now. Waiting too long may cost you everything but giving up a little now for an eternity with GOD?

Invaluable. Compares to nothing earthly.

What are the Good Old Days?

The Good Old Days?

Black Death pxabay.com

What good old days are is immensely subjective of course; for whom; where; when.  Times of war, famine, natural disaster, pandemics or when little existed to defend, ward off or assist victims of whatever.

Ecclesiastes 7:10

10 Say not, “Why were the former days better than these?” For it is not from wisdom that you ask this.

Ancient common practices:

Blood letting was a common medical practice once; even using leaches; no antibiotics; no anesthesia; no X-rays; few effective medications.

Blood Sucking Leach pixabay.com
Times of economic distress:

Genesis 26:1 ESV /

Bread and Soup Line

Now there was a famine in the land, besides the former famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went to Gerar to Abimelech king of the Philistines.

Ecclesiastes 3:8 ESV /

A time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.

Yet, the times of peace are fleeting and somewhere on this planet an active war is happening at any given time so, the times mentioned above not only change but the “where-s” and by the “whom-s” also.

Despite of all the threats and dangers throughout history, Christians can look to a future with GOD in a “better place”.  Thank You Jesus.

Discernment

The Declaration of Independence – images from pixabay.com

Why is acquiring Discernment so important?

1 John 4:1 ESV

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Out in the “The Real World” I heard it said as a child or student it is like (blank). Unfortunately while this may suggest making a mechanical thing work it can, also point to a darker side of life. We (all not just Christians) must prepare our children for real life dangers along with an optimistic portrayal of life beyond the cocoon of family, church or school – when these places live up to the best humans can offer of course.  Some children learn all too soon some of life’s uglier side at home or close to home. For the majority I hope the collective nest in childhood is loving and nurturing. As a student of history, humans and what the Bible says about good and evil, we do not do our young a favor by shielding them for too long and too tight a loving grip: in some way we must alert them just what is “The Real World” as we teach them tolerance and how to love thy neighbor as thy self.

1 Kings 3:9 ESV

Give your servant (the writer) therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?”

A good place to start is revealed in these two verses . . . and many more in GOD’s Word.

Romans 12:2 ESV /

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

James 1:5 ESV /

We Christians Worship One GOD

1 Timothy 2:5 ESV

For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,

Trinity

We believe in one GOD  three persons: Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. That should not be too great a mystery since GOD created us in GOD’S likeness – we are flesh, mind and soul are we not? Many of my Christian Brothers and Sisters may say I am over simplifying the Trinity with that metaphor yet, it gives those of us who are less philosophical something to help us to understand (akin to a triangle, water-ice-vapor, a three leaf clover, egg shell-egg white-egg yolk and on to ever more complex illustrations).

Matthew 28:19 ESV

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

Water

Consider this: GOD comes to and came to us. We can do nothing except believe, trust Jesus and worship.

All we need to know is contained in the Bible. Old Covenant and New Covenant.

Love of God

All we need to do is accept The Grace of GOD offered by the Perfect Sacrifice of Jesus Christ and allow The Holy Spirit to teach and guide us. We do good because we then know what good is and appreciate that because of Jesus we will experience the GOD’S Mercy for eternity. We want to worship out of gratitude and share the Good News with all people.

Romans 6:23 ESV

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Perception

Consciousness: The sum total input from all our senses and our perception of what it means.

GOD provides us with the gift of our senses and the gift of our intellect; how we perceive what it all means and interpret it with our consciousness can be is dependent on whether or not we believe GOD. Since I am a Christian my source of guidance for this process comes from The Word of GOD; in particular what Jesus taught.

The Bible is the lens and filter by which we Christians should examine what we do and who we say we are.

Memory Issues

Memory Issues

Falling Away from GOD – image pixabay.com
Dorot Jewish Division, The New York Public Library. “Sepulchres of the judges of Israel” New York Public Library Digital Collections. Judges Of Israel Accessed June 1, 2019. http://digitalcollections.nypl.org/items/510d47d9-5d16-a3d9-e040-e00a18064a99

When the Hebrews were settled in the land GOD promised (some of the land that is) and things were relatively peaceful the people would forget what GOD had done for them.  During the time of the Judges there became a cycle of falling away from GOD and dire consequences then GOD would raise up a Judge to lead them back and defeat their enemies. This cycle persisted for twelve judges; the period ends when Saul became King.

Stumble – image pixabay.com

Some of us Christians may be hard pressed to admit it but, we easily forget when GOD has answered our prayer(s) and drift into a carefree nonchalant frame of mind until the next crises. That behavior can be explained with this familiar phrase, “What have you done for me lately?”. We probably do not mean it that way but it still appears that way to others.

Deuteronomy 4:9 ESV

“Only take care, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things that your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your children’s children—

An Even Worse Attitude?

Faulter – image pixabay.com

An even worse attitude may be taking GOD for granted. Assuming that the answer to prayer will be what we think is right, sometimes relying on GOD’s Grace to cover what may otherwise be our sin.

Romans 6:1-2 ESV

What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?

And a Still Greater Error ?

An even greater error would be taking matters into our own hands then expecting GOD to approve and bless our action afterwards. Instead:

Repentance – image pixabay.com

1 Chronicles 10:13-14 ESV

So Saul died for his breach of faith. He broke faith with the Lord in that he did not keep the command of the Lord, and also consulted a medium, seeking guidance. He did not seek guidance from the Lord. Therefore the Lord put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.

Even Moses Faltered

Moses
The Miriam and Ira D. Wallach Division of Art, Prints and Photographs: Photography Collection, The New York Public Library. “Moses Fountain,Washington Park, Albany, N. Moses struck a rock at Mount Horeb as GOD instructed and water flowed for the people during the Exodus but later GOD instructed Moses to speak to a rock to bring forth water but he hit it with a stick again: this displeased GOD  and evoked anger.

Evil Redux

Evil Redux

About Evil – image pixabay.com
Evil Personified – image pixabay.com

Yes I wrote about evil before however, I thought it worthwhile to reiterate aspects of this seemingly ubiquitous aspect of life. If we just focus on The Ten Commandments and select those that instill an immediate threat to humans we should gain a bit more insight concerning evil. So, if I avoid debating social or cultural dilemmas head on cool heads may allow why sin is the source of evil. When GOD created the Heavenly Hosts they misused their Free Will as humans eventually had done later on when they were created. Satan and his demonic supporters fell from grace and influenced, and still influence, humanity: tempting us to give in to our sin nature thus perpetuating the influences of evil upon our world.

Isaiah 5:20 ESV

Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! Self defense,  defending good, defending your family may lead to killing because there is little choice; possibly self sacrifice if it can do good is possible, but:

Ten Commandments – images from pixabay.com

Exodus 20:13 ESV

“You shall not murder.

Rather than go through every possibility in a short blog I will point out how  two more sins cause evil to linger on the Earth.

1. Untruth: lies, omission, deception, manipulation . . . These cause the innocent harm; rob the innocent of what is theirs; encourages and enables a perpetrator to continue in these sinful ways.   2. Greed: How much does a person really need of anything? If a selfish person acts greedily innocent people loose out: food, clothing, healthcare, . . . . . employment doing honorable work.

Left Out of Prosperity – image pixabay.com
There is no such thing as a victimless crime according to the Laws of GOD. Jesus paid for sin and fulfilled the penalty for sinning but He did not do away with GOD’s standards and definition for sin.
