Today people shy away from talking about sin because The Bible teaches we all are sinners and many people refuse to accept this. Yes we all are sinners from the most horrible dictator to the shop lifter who takes an apple. In human terms there is a difference but to GOD sin is sin:
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.Evil Comes from Sin
Overt deliberate action, unknown effects or unintended consequences? Any of the above can and often do cause harm. What can add to the negative results are subterfuge, callous disregard or unconcern for others.
There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.
Once David sinned with Bathsheba he wanted to conceal his sin; he then first wanted her husband Uriah to come home from the war and sleep with her on the pretense he needed his report but that failed . . .
Uriah said to David, “The ark and Israel and Judah dwell in booths, and my lord Joab and the servants of my lord are camping in the open field. Shall I then go to my house, to eat and to drink and to lie with my wife? As you live, and as your soul lives, I will not do this thing.”What does the Most Harm
He then created a plan for him to be out in front of the troops and the army to withdraw and leave him exposed to the enemy alone
14 In the morning David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it by the hand of Uriah.15 In the letter he wrote, “Set Uriah in the forefront of the hardest fighting, and then draw back from him, that he may be struck down, and die.”16 And as Joab was besieging the city, he assigned Uriah to the place where he knew there were valiant men.17 And the men of the city came out and fought with Joab, and some of the servants of David among the people fell. Uriah the Hittite also died.
David did harvest negative consequences because of his sinning.

3 But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty.2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,3 heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good,4 treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,5 having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.6 For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions,7 always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth.
This letter to Timothy (part of The New Testament in The Bible) was written by (ST) Paul the Apostle almost 2000 years ago; no doubt truth about the nature of humans was recognized then, before then and even now. In the interest of Christians the description given of “the times” is a prophetic warning for unbelievers about the second coming of Christ and the “end times”.

We refer to Christianity as “a religion” but that is only a classification of convenience because it is a relationship. When humans have a relationship (and even many other creatures) we say it is one of give and take (symbiotic). Of course the relationship with GOD is even beyond that, since we see Jesus as part of the GOD Trinity and he as King. Still, when we study the Bible we quickly discover this relationship aspect as a “Covenant” or contract with GOD. GOD makes promises and we make promises. How we teach each other about GOD evolves to reflect changes in geopolitical and anthropological differences. The Biblical truths reflect customs, languages and the different needs of people. What does not change in this dynamic relationship, is the truths and standards of GOD; nor our position as created beings verses The Creator GOD.
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
When we confess our sin we are forgiven then we become a child of GOD;
accepting Jesus we are the recipients of the unconditional love of GOD; even our faults cannot change that. GOD did love us even before we accepted Christ but after salvation our eternity is sealed.
OK some people these days consider the Bible a great piece of literature, a collection of myths and a source of wisdom – perhaps some consider it all the above. As a Christian I know it is GOD’S Word. The literature, history and wisdom built in. Before I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior I read The Book of Proverbs. I was so impressed the awe never left me. Humans have several secular sources of wisdom and their own practical wisdom earned from experience but, GOD presents aspects humans typically do not develop on their own – especially when GOD’S Word is taken in aggregate.
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.
I often say only a systematic study of GOD’S word can yield the greatest meaning to a person. The subtleties and nuances corroborated from one part of scripture to another offer flexible understanding (not legalistic rigidity). We are individuals living our individual lives in the present time that is our time. If you read about the early Church you will see that the apostles were individuals offering insight, knowledge and wisdom to the early believers – and even us today. Only a true believer’s knowledge complemented with wisdom can guard against apostasy and antichrists.

‘”The Law of GOD” is archaic, unrealistic, inhibits my freedom and is childish.’ If this is what you think you are not a Christian. You cannot claim Christ and shun GOD at the same time. While Jesus Christ fulfilled the penalty for all sin (even ours) His sacrifice did not abolish The Law. Cultural and language distortions have confused people (especially modern people) but GOD has not changed: The Holy Character of GOD remains intact.
You honor GOD by living by the moral standard that is revealed in the Bible.
Do not disregard a clean life and responsible stewardship in all things for these things please and honor GOD.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Therefore we honor GOD when we conform to what GOD requires; it is not for our own pleasure that we exist.

Consciousness: The sum total input from all our senses and our perception of what it means.
GOD provides us with the gift of our senses and the gift of our intellect; how we perceive what it all means and interpret it with our consciousness can be is dependent on whether or not we believe GOD. Since I am a Christian my source of guidance for this process comes from The Word of GOD; in particular what Jesus taught.
The Bible is the lens and filter by which we Christians should examine what we do and who we say we are.
Diligent study of GOD’s Word will strengthen our ability to avoid temptation and sin and live a more GOD influenced life every day.
If we reject GOD and choose evil or even the appearance of evil we and others will look at our lives and our existence from that point of view; Choose GOOD; Choose Jesus and eternity with GOD.
When the Hebrews were settled in the land GOD promised (some of the land that is) and things were relatively peaceful the people would forget what GOD had done for them. During the time of the Judges there became a cycle of falling away from GOD and dire consequences then GOD would raise up a Judge to lead them back and defeat their enemies. This cycle persisted for twelve judges; the period ends when Saul became King.
Some of us Christians may be hard pressed to admit it but, we easily forget when GOD has answered our prayer(s) and drift into a carefree nonchalant frame of mind until the next crises. That behavior can be explained with this familiar phrase, “What have you done for me lately?”. We probably do not mean it that way but it still appears that way to others.
“Only take care, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things that your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your children’s children—
An Even Worse Attitude?
An even worse attitude may be taking GOD for granted. Assuming that the answer to prayer will be what we think is right, sometimes relying on GOD’s Grace to cover what may otherwise be our sin.
So Saul died for his breach of faith. He broke faith with the Lord in that he did not keep the command of the Lord, and also consulted a medium, seeking guidance. He did not seek guidance from the Lord. Therefore the Lord put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.
Even Moses Faltered
Moses struck a rock at Mount Horeb as GOD instructed and water flowed for the people during the Exodus but later GOD instructed Moses to speak to a rock to bring forth water but he hit it with a stick again: this displeased GOD and evoked anger.
SONG: Steven Curtis Chapman – Remember to Remember
Some people want to portray GOD as just love while others as a vengeful god spewing “fire and brimstone”. Christians who study scriptures diligently must come to the conclusion GOD is both. To become a Christian we must admit we are sinners and repent. Elsewhere in the Bible there are numerous references to The Love GOD has for us and creation – of course Sin, Fallen Angels, Satan and Evil is excluded.
But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”
The Stick is Bitter!
Therefore we as Christians must speak truth: Yes God is Love he provides and has given Salvation through the sacrificial work of Jesus Christ on the Cross but, to ignore the penalty for unrepentant sin does not help anyone and leads to eternal damnation.
SONG: Kristian Stanfill: My Reward – Official Lyric Video
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
2) GOD generated visions and dreams
5 Now Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers they hated him even more.6 He said to them, “Hear this dream that I have dreamed:7 Behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and behold, my sheaf arose and stood upright. And behold, your sheaves gathered around it and bowed down to my sheaf.”8 His brothers said to him, “Are you indeed to reign over us? Or are you indeed to rule over us?” So they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words.
