What makes us Christians? Part IV

The last segment of the core tenets of Christianity require more study than what I can provide in my blog.  If you want to know more or have trouble understanding these I suggest a Bible study or at least a quality study guide; one (of many) such book is:

16. Justification and Adoption

Romans 5:1 ESV

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 9:8 ESV

This means that it is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God, but the children of the promise are counted as offspring.

17. Heaven

John 14:2 ESV

In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?

18. Final Judgment

Judgement – images from pixabay.com

Revelation 20:11-12 ESV

Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done.

19. What is Sanctification and Perseverance?

Baptism of Christ – images from pixabay.com

1 Thessalonians 4:3 ESV

For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality;

Perseverance – images from pixabay.com

Galatians 6:9 ESV

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

20. What will happen when Jesus returns?

Jesus Returns – images from pixabay.com

Matthew 24:36 ESV

“But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.

1 Corinthians 15:52 ESV

In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.

I hope these four blog posts encourage you as a Christian to study GOD’s Word: go to church, go to Sunday School, attend Bible Study or read commentaries. If you have not yet accepted Jesus Christ I encourage you to do so now.

Share the Word . . . Christian revival can help turn the trends toward evil back. Thank You.

Song and Lyrics co-written by Gordon Kennedy and Pierce Pettis sung by Susan Ashton (similar to Garth Brooks):

What makes us Christians? GOD Moves us to act according to GOD’s standards:

Part III

“Christianity as a great hall, denominations as rooms” – from C.S. Lewis’ preface to Mere Christianity

Part III of my blog posts on the core of Christianity.  The purpose is not to diminish GOD, Jesus or The Holy Spirit; it is to enhance our common purpose to bring Christ to the people. It is only through what GOD wants for us that we can have what is good and lovely on this planet as we await the return of Jesus Christ Our Lord and Savior.

Angels Satan Demons – images from pixabay.com

11. Angels, Satan and Demons

Angels are associated with serving GOD in Heaven but some rebelled the most prominent was Satan. Many people know the story about what happened in the Garden of Eden: Satan convinced Eve and Adam they could be like GOD if they ate from the Tree :

Genesis 2:9 ESV

And out of the ground the Lord God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Who was this Satan? A fallen angel? An adversary of GOD?   See Link:

https://www.biblestudytools.com/dictionary/satan/

Demons seem to be associated with Satan and also do evil:

2 Peter 2:4 ESV

For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment;

12. What does it mean to become a Christian?

You can become a Christian quite easily:

John 3:16 ESV

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

Living a Christian life is a process; we improve each day we diligently work to that aim but know we will never be perfect here in this life and are always subject to temptation. We are not left to struggle alone:

Acts 2:38 ESV

And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

13. What is Election

This is a concept froth with debate: How does one know whether or not they became a Christian by exercising free will were chosen by GOD? We really do not know though some people claim it can be known. You will need to study this tenet on your own. Though we are instructed to accept Jesus there is also scripyure like this:

Ephesians 1:4-5 ESV / 88 helpful votes

Even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will,

14. What is Death?

If you know some one who has died the definition is clear. If you do not believe in an afterlife that is it (that’s all there is). If you are a Christian you expect to be granted eternal life sometime after death. John 3:16 ESV

Revelation 21:4 ESV

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

The Church – images from pixabay.com

15. What is the Church?

The Church is NOT a building, not an organization nor a place; The Church is the aggregate of believers in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

Romans 12:5 ESV

So we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.

What makes us Christians? Part II

The tenets of Christianity is the glue that holds us in unity though we may be of a different sect or denomination.  The order we place them in may be different a little just like the Ten Command but, nevertheless important.

6.  Atonement:

1 Peter 2:24 ESV

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.

7.  Resurrection:

1 Thessalonians 4:14 ESV

For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.

John 11:25 ESV

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live,

8.  Prayer:

Philippians 4:6 ESV

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

9.  Trinity: The Mystery of Three in One.

Matthew 28:19 ESV

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

10. Bible:

2 Timothy 3:16 ESV

We are half way through the twenty tenets of Christianity. The order may vary but these and the others to be posted next week and the following week are pretty much essential. Other traditions can and have been added and many are just that and not sinful. Only some alterations, additions and omissions constitute invalidating a Christian perspective. We, and I say, “If it is not in the Bible it is not so.”

What makes us Christians? Part 1

Christian Core – images from pixabay.com

There may be a scholarly debate as to what constitutes the Christian Faith when one moves deeper into the variants of the definition; I will keep as close as possible to the most agreed upon tenets. This post, and the next three posts, will cover twenty as selected by Wayne A. Grudem* (BA, Harvard; MDiv, DD, Westminster Seminary; PhD Cambridge).  The order I present the list in is my own.
