We Are the Caretakers

Eden – image from pixabay.com

In my lifetime I have been warned several times over how our over population is depleting the resources of the Earth.

Genesis 2:15 ESV

The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.

Yet long before the predicted doom miraculously humans developed and discovered how to produce, find or distribute more of what a larger population needs to live here on our planet.  GOD gave humans a remarkable brain and an indomitable spirit; we not only survive we thrive. It is also true while some of us waste, horde, and selfishly lavish our selves in abundance there are people in this world who die for lack of a simple medication.  While some of us are swelled grotesquely with fat, there are babies who fall as silent victims of starvation elsewhere.

No, the planet is not becoming barren or failing to provide food, clean water and fresh air because it has run out.  Though these are stolen, soiled and fouled by a privileged few, not even that is the reason for human suffering.

1 Timothy 6:17-19 ESV

As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.

More human suffering is inflicted upon humanity because evil energized sinful people want to insure they are in control and hold political power over others.  Warlords and tyrants intercept relief supplies, curtail aid workers or even kill the humanitarians that fan out across the globe to assist other people.

Some motivation behind needed “good” things might be suspect but it still has a positive affect.

Yes even if greed has motivated commercial entities to produce food and healthcare for an exuberant profit it does help and is unlikely to deplete The Earth’s resources.

Genesis 50:20 ESV

As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.

Humans do not lack imagination, cleverness or the skills to continue to locate and extract resources.

Daniel 1:17 ESV

As for these four youths, God gave them learning and skill in all literature and wisdom, and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

The physical planet is abundant with raw materials and even if humanity deems it necessary to reach beyond Earth it appears to be within the sphere of the abilities GOD has equipped us with.

The Bottom Line: God has revealed in the Bible that humans are to be the caretakers of Earth and all its resources.

Genesis 1:28 ESV

And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

We are to carryout this mandate without capitulating to sin and to do so equitably and see that the needs of all people are met, not just the privileged few. I extend this noble principle beyond our planet by believing it applies wherever humans go in the Cosmos.

Our Life’s Work: for Man or Woman

How do we know what to do in life

Do we have a life’s work or mission?  Often young people are asked what they want to be when they become adults and their answers sometime actually come true but, for many of us life is not, or was not that simple. Instead some of us struggle to find that niche that would define “our life’s work” and some of us have never found it yet.

Perhaps we missed the match with our potential and the opportunities that were presented to us, or we never had that circumstance that triggered our curiosity; we may think we never were meant to have such a meaningful discovery.

Setting aside the humorous anecdotes and cartoon images of the old man on the mountain top or perpetual traveler who is questing for “The Ultimate Truth” or seeking a revelation from GOD. We Christians know we have a direct line of communication with GOD; this is despite our dubious nature because our belief in the work that Jesus has done for all people for all time. Because he paid the price for all sin we can pray to GOD directly and ask for guidance in this matter.

Matthew 7:7 ESV

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

Yes Go for it – image from pixabay.com

I am not omniscient nor can I see the future

GOD knows past, present and future so whom shall we ask about what it is we should do with the life we have? Of course we should seek GOD and the best way to do that is by prayer as I have written in the above paragraph. It is also important to learn all we can about GOD by studying The Holy Bible since we cannot achieve anything contrary to GOD’s standards.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Beware of false prophets by knowing GOD’s Word

Deuteronomy 18:20-22 ESV

But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in my name that I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die.’ And if you say in your heart, ‘How may we know the word that the Lord has not spoken?’— when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word that the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You need not be afraid of him.

What applies to individuals also applies to nations

Our United States of America has risen above human flaws and demonstrated much of GOD’s truth when she has sought it in the face of serious challenges.  “In GOD We Trust” truly meant something and was not an empty slogan. My fellow believers join me in daily (near constant) prayer for our Nation; pray that as a nation we return to GOD for guidance and GOD’s ways of what is good and right. Not as unthinking blind and deaf patriots but as Christians who serve GOD and Country. GOD Bless the USA.

Maybe you have been called to work for “The Good of All” as a secular leader or a religious leader; for our nation’s future

Isaiah 60:12 ESV

For the nation and kingdom that will not serve you shall perish; those nations shall be utterly laid waste.

Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday

We celebrate and observer the events of Jesus’ last week:
The Last Supper – image from pixabay.com
The Last Supper:

1 Corinthians 11:23-25 ESV

For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

Betrayal, abused, put on trial though innocent  convicted unto death by Crucifixion he fulfilled prophecy  and fulfilled the requirement of “The Law” that sin’s penalty  is death: He paid the penalty for all people, everywhere and for all time. Accepting this grants you forgiveness and fellowship with GOD.
Jesus is Dead – image from pixabay.com

1 Peter 3:18 ESV

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit,

On Resurrection Sunday Jesus’ rising from the dead insured all people that he was the Son of GOD and all He said and accomplished was True.
The Ressurection – image from pixabay.com

Romans 8:11 ESV

If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.

Could People Learn to Do What is Right

Lincoln Memorial – image from pixabay.com

Yes, people could do what is right “If”

They overcame self interest and serve one another
They oppose evil and support good
They believe in absolute truth
Help Defend Right: Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, Photographs and Prints Division, The New York Public Library. “Appealing to be allowed to help fight for the Union, or the condition in 1863.” New York Public Library Digital Collections. So how can we learn about absolute truth and what it is? I can answer this as a Christian: I believe in absolute truth by faith in GOD; I believe GOD and what I can learn about GOD and GOD’s standards from the Holy Scripture: The Holy Bible reveals GOD’s truth to me.

How can this be you may wonder?

As an ordinary human, in order to do this I must overcome my own self interests, tendency to do wrong, and oppose what evil influences I encounter in “The World” – even from within me. Philosophically the mind GOD gave me, struggles with many illusions and what appeals to my senses, discrepancies in reality and false doctrines; imperfection is the term best describes our milieu, reality and the expectations humans have.  So how are we to learn about what is “The Good”? From GOD’s word; because GOD loves us and has provided us with a way to know about “The GOOD” which is derived from the absolute truth GOD is the creator of. OK then, if we all tried to do a better job reaching for the seemingly lofty goals expressed within the Bible, think of what that could do for the character of life on Earth for more people – Christians and non-believers as well.

Gods plan is rooted in love, with guidance, provisions and a wonderful eternity for believers.

 Start here: BELIEVE GOD

This coming Sunday, Palm Sunday, we remember Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem but in less than a week seemingly all the people will have abandoned Jesus when He is betrayed, abused and crucified. This is a sad testimony concerning the nature of people yet, if He had not suffered and died for the sins of all there wold not be any hope for humanity’s eternal salvation.
