Caring for One Another

Despite so much evidence that some humans seem to be evil, enough people care about other people and do good in many ways.

It seems to me that evil is ever present as the news heaotheresdlines indicate;  yet the people of the world have somehow managed to do more than survive. When a disaster hits sure some opportunistic thieves steal from victims and pillage or worse, affecting their fellow humans negatively by making a bad situation even more traumatic but, most do not.

Many people provide assistance in many forms: medical attention, search and rescue, clean water, food, shelter and often financial aid for rebuilding.  Why do people care about strangers, foreigners, or people in a different culture halfway around the world?

As a Christian I believe it is because we are taught to do so by reading and learning from GOD’s Word.

Hebrews 13:16 ESV

Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.

Philippians 2:4 ESV

Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.

So, by considering the needs of others we become obedient servants for GOD demonstrating GOD’s love for people to all the world.

No we do not earn Earthly points or work our way to heaven; as followers of Jesus we already have eternal salvation.

When we care for others we show GOD’s love to those who do not know of, or about, the one true GOD. Our actions may even cause another human to turn away from selfishness, hedonism and a godless existence and they may even accept GOD’s grace by believing in Jesus Christ and become a fellow believer.  If that were to happen you can join in with the heavenly host and joyfully celebrate.

Luke 15:7 and 10 ESV

Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.

. . .

Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

Titus 3:5 ESV

He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit,

Becoming a Christian is easy and simple

John 3:16 ESV

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

Humans Need to see a Face

Accepting a person or idea humans tend to need to see a face before making a choice.

I could not, see myself casting a vote for a candidate I never have seen, marrying a woman without meeting her first or even accepting a controversial or difficult concept without scrutinizing the presenter. This appears to be a common trait shared by most people.  Looking through history books I discover many portraits and even busts and statues of important people (real or mythological).

Saul the first king of Israel  was described in positive terms; his subjects surely judged him favorably by his appearance:

1 Samuel 9:2 ESV

And he had a son whose name was Saul, a handsome young man. There was not a man among the people of Israel more handsome than he. From his shoulders upward he was taller than any of the people.

Be aware of your own distortions and prejudices: egocentrism

Titus 1:12-13 ESV

One of the Cretans, a prophet of their own, said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.” This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith,

Examine your thoughts; are they your own or has someone planted them within you; are you gullible.

Proverbs 6:16-19 ESV

There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.

Could We Accept Utopia

Looking for Utopia – image from pixabay.com

Using my life’s worth of experience and knowledge I find it improbable that humans can accept perfection in anything.

First: Comparing an ideal of anything imparts value to what it is; we compare or contrast it to what it is not.

Second: The very nature of the reality we observe, study and seek to explain is not without exceptions or anomalies and, humans are subjective.

Third: GOD promises eternal life to believers who accept Jesus Christ’s redemption ultimately being given a new body and a new world.

Adam and Eve: The Miriam and Ira D. We most probably can only realize perfection with a new body living in a new place for our current inherited body and mind, cannot accept perfection: Adam and Eve dwelled in the Garden of Eden and it seems to many that this was a Utopian or perfect place. They also had ‘free will’ like us and, chose to disobey God by eating a forbidden fruit thus were ejected out of ‘paradise’ passing down the consequences all the way to us.

We are their equivalent and probably would do the same rebellious thing that they had.  This rational leads me to believe we humans cannot accept a Utopian existence.

Romans 7:18 ESV

For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out.

There is hope

Evangelize – image from pixabay.com

God sent his son Jesus to take our place and receive the punishment for sin.  When we accept this and acknowledge Him we gain eternal life and the ultimate restart with a new body able to live in heaven with GOD  after our transformation modified to accept perfection forever.

Romans 10:9 ESV

Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

I believe it will take this transformation with the promised new body and our OWN TRANSFIGURATION in oder to be part of a perfect existence.

So, Should we Give in Let Evil Reign Freely now?

Of course not. We Christians are to strive to do good, give the world a view of GOD’s goodness and love and, do everything we can to appose and diminish evil as we live in this current disposition.

1 Thessalonians 5:22 ESV

Abstain from every form of evil.

Free Will Enables Anyone a Chance for Salvation and Eternity with GOD.

John 5:24 ESV

Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.

2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

Revelation 21:4 ESV

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

We recall fondly a time when more good prevailed in our days than bad and, our mind mercifully contributes by diminishing the negatives more each day. AS we relive fond moments we reinforce the pleasantness of a past time while dimming the less than pleasant (or down right horrible) experiences we once had.

GOD mercifully seems to have given us this ability.

The ability to lessen negatives in our pasts helps us to get over the ill feelings: broken hearts are healed; grief fades into fond memories of a loved one; devastating mistakes are transformed into learning experiences.  This process is true and will happen if we let it. One very helpful tool that has been given to us by GOD is the Bible.

The Holy Bible teaches us about real people and real experiences in life and, gives us hope for the future.

Some Bible Verses:

The Past

Isaiah 43:25 ESV

“I, I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sins.

The Now

Psalm 118:24 ESV

This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Hebrews 13:5 ESV

Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

The Future

Jeremiah 29:11 ESV

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Matthew 6:31-34ESV

Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Generations

Tree – image from pixabay.com

For Humans the Generations Cycle is Significant

We discover that the Holy Bible has several references and lists revealing the lineage of important people depicted in GOD’s Word. The interesting point I see reveals that many people in the linage list were not significant in themselves but, because their progeny was, importance is also granted to them.

Genesis 11:10-32 ESV

These are the generations of Shem. When Shem was 100 years old, he fathered Arpachshad two years after the flood. And Shem lived after he fathered Arpachshad 500 years and had other sons and daughters. When Arpachshad had lived 35 years, he fathered Shelah. And Arpachshad lived after he fathered Shelah 403 years and had other sons and daughters. When Shelah had lived 30 years, he fathered Eber. …

Matthew 1:1-25 ESV

The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. Abraham was the father of Isaac, and Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers, and Judah the father of Perez and Zerah by Tamar, and Perez the father of Hezron, and Hezron the father of Ram, and Ram the father of Amminadab, and Amminadab the father of Nahshon, and Nahshon the father of Salmon, and Salmon the father of Boaz by Rahab, and Boaz the father of Obed by Ruth, and Obed the father of Jesse, …

You may be part of a list of people that will become a genealogy of a future great person.

This possibility makes you important; you may consider yourself insignificant but you ultimately may not be.

Matthew 1:56

and Salmon the father of Boaz by Rahab*, and Boaz the father of Obed by Ruth*, and Obed the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of David the king.

*Note: Rahab was a prostitute and Ruth was a foreigner (also, each being a woman was contrary to the cultural norm when women were less important than men.

GOD knows our future and GOD has a plan for all of us.
