Contentment is not easy to achieve and it can easily be misconstrued.
Contentment may almost seem un-american; not striving for more is not good for business it would seem. Here in The United States of America we are bombarded with commercials everywhere telling us we need this or that. Do we? Of course not. We may want it or even crave it but when we really get down to the facts we probably admit we can live without whatever it is.
And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”
So, having all our genuine needs met, serving others, in good health and safe is really having it all. Not that a big house, fancy car, latest electronic device or traveling to interesting or even luxurious places is wrong intrinsically: it becomes a problem when the quest for all of these dominates our life, perhaps becoming our god and religion.
What does GOD’s Word Say about this?
The Apostle Paul said he was content even in prison.
Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.
Theoretical physicists use their GOD given minds to speculate about multiple dimensions, the segment of the universe humans can detect, multiverses and whether this current universe is just one of an infinite succession of universes.
I believe anything humans can conceive is possible with GOD but, only in a way consistent with GOD’s characteristics. What do I mean? I do not believe GOD created an evil universe for example.
I do believe if GOD created other intelligent beings that GOD has provided them with guidance and maybe even Jesus and The Holy Spirit as well.
Our brains are an exquisite biological organ
Our brains are an exquisite biological organ existing squarely in the physical reality that we are part of; the spiritual aspect of us exists in the spiritual realm. Our soul is the essence of who we are and is a bridge between here and now and a timeless spiritual realm where we as Christians expect to exist when our mortal being succumbs to death. Not ever having consciously connected to the spiritual realm I surmise it is our consciousness that traverses the gap, with out soul defining who we are (or will be then) as we enjoy Heaven. We humans are immersed in a reality of beginnings, existence and endings: we find it difficult to understand eternity in a meaningful way. I am sure when we are with The Lord all our questions will be answered . . . in the meanwhile here are some clues from The Word of GOD:
And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light. And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. And Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.” He was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” …
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”
Then I looked, and behold, on the expanse that was over the heads of the cherubim there appeared above them something like a sapphire, in appearance like a throne. And he said to the man clothed in linen, “Go in among the whirling wheels underneath the cherubim. Fill your hands with burning coals from between the cherubim, and scatter them over the city.” And he went in before my eyes. Now the cherubim were standing on the south side of the house, when the man went in, and a cloud filled the inner court. And the glory of the Lord went up from the cherub to the threshold of the house, and the house was filled with the cloud, and the court was filled with the brightness of the glory of the Lord. And the sound of the wings of the cherubim was heard as far as the outer court, like the voice of God Almighty when he speaks. …

Since no one can claim to be perfectly sinless and sin is counter productive and even worse, just a small percentage of any population inspired by pure evil can do a great deal of harm, how does the civilized world even exist?
Furthermore, from my experience in living a long life rich in diverse experiences I suspect even the best people, families or nations are dysfunctional to some degree, again, how do many people live in relative peace and safety, have adequate shelter and at least sufficient food to survive? GOD.
A fellow Christian once said to me The Holy Spirit sustains whatever level of civilized life we currently enjoy.
Humans like to say things are relative: this person is relatively good, that event seems relatively bad or despite flaws our United States of America is the best place to live in the entire world relative to a number of selected less fortunate nations. Yes I live in The U.S.A. and experienced a few other countries and I tend to agree that we have it good; more important though is our Nation’s influence upon the rest of the world. Advances in human rights, healthcare and freedoms are just some of these influences – this despite imperfection in some places of our land. So how did and continues to be the case? GOD.
GOD’s blessings and help from GOD’s Holy Spirit
. . . sustains a Nation that once conducted itself more in accordance with GOD’s standards than it does today. GOD is patient. GOD is forgiving. GOD is just. GOD will not tolerate a decline in the number of believers, back-slidden believers or the increase of deliberate sinning forever: note the Biblical history of the Hebrews in The Old Testament.
It may not be the end times that destroys us.
The cycles of obedience and disobedience and the ultimate handing over of Israel and Judah to conquerors indicated GOD will not be mocked and there are consequences for sin for Nations as well as for individuals.
It is not too late for our Nation and our people to repent undo the disobedience and give GOD a reason to continue to bless The U.S.A. instructing The Holy Spirit to hold us together still.
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.

That trite quip is so much more than a phrase uttered in a desperate moment: GOD is omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent. One thing GOD is not is a riddle. It is true that humans have always wondered just who and where GOD is but, what are the only things that has changed through the eons? What many people assume about GOD. Yet for believers that accept The Holy Bible as The Word of GOD nothing has changed; what is important to know about GOD is contained there in.
What is important to know?
So much speculation about GOD, improvised gods, our existence and the Universe is really not important. Think about it in this way: when people increase humanity’s medical knowledge, suffering is lessened and people are healed this is an obvious benefit derived from having intelligence and a mind because GOD created a marvelous organ: our brain.
Yet such as it is this marvelous organ also contemplates evil, plans evil and executes evil; this is an outcome of free will and part of our very nature. The magnificent abilities to know, discover and fabricate so much demonstrating worthwhile accomplishments, can also produce dubious actions, false knowledge and bad ideas.
Somethings Humans do Seems Fruitless.
Knowing whether there are infinite universes, parallel dimensions or what exists several billion light-years across the cosmos seems only to satisfy the human brain’s innate thirst to know and may furnish dubious benefits in everyday life . OK, this may not be evil and we may not determine its value at this moment aside from satisfying curiosity but, the Holy Bible teaches this about knowledge:
