Ancient People Sought GOD or gods
The seeking was prompted by the so many unknowns humans were confronted by in their daily lives. Some among each population (clan, tribe, nation) were aroused to fill the void: discover ways to commune with GOD or gods and act as a representative of the people – a priest. This approach led to many forms of human invention meant to fill the void but, sadly at the expense of the general population for the aggrandizement of a few. With their power over others these intermediary few compelled the people to comply and obey or they would offend the gods. What is unique about the way our true Biblical GOD accomplished this? GOD approached, taught and guided people (not the other way around).
Adam and Eve walked with GOD.
Genesis 3:8 ESV
And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.
Genesis 6:9 ESV
These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God.
Genesis 5:22 ESV
Enoch walked with God after he fathered Methuselah 300 years and had other sons and daughters.
What we Believe as Christians is that GOD provided people with guidance knowledge and standards through Prophets
“Prophet (general definition):In religion, a prophet is an individual who is regarded as being in contact with a divine being and is said to speak on that entity’s behalf, serving as an intermediary with humanity by delivering messages or teachings from the supernatural source to other people. The message that the prophet conveys is called a prophecy. “
Adam Zarn:The Prophets of the Bible Song
The test for a true prophet?
But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in my name that I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die.’ And if you say in your heart, ‘How may we know the word that the Lord has not spoken?’— when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word that the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You need not be afraid of him.
